Alongside his longtime creative foil Robert Forster, McLennan established The Go-Betweens as one of Australia's most acclaimed and beloved bands. Their songwriting set a gold standard and inspired a generation of musicians and poets. Sadly, McLennan passed away suddenly in May 2006.

“I can’t shake him and I don’t want to” Forster wrote on his Facebook page on the 15th anniversary of McLennan’s passing.

“You can’t lose 31 years of friendship, especially when half of it is spent working together in music, the other half spent laughing, planning, coping with lives lived around music”.

This special tribute performance showcases McLennan’s beloved Go-Betweens songs such as Streets Of Your Town, Cattle And Cane, Right Here, and Bye Bye Pride. The show also features highlights and rarities from McLennan’s solo career including the likes of Easy Come Easy Go, Lighting Fires, Keep My Word, and One Plus One.

“There are songs I listen to that make me feel a strong urge to want to pick up a guitar and play them” Hoffmann says. “With Grant McLennan’s songs, the urge was to put a band together and play a show".

“He is one of Australia’s greatest songwriters. His songs are simple and melodic yet so hypnotic, beautiful, and meaningful. It's an honour to be celebrating Grant’s vast catalogue on stage with some of Perth’s finest musicians”.

With a career that has brought us The Morning Night, Marley Wynn, and many solo outings, Hoffmann is no stranger to paying salute to Australian songwriting greatness. A decade ago he performed around Australia and Europe with the surviving members of The Triffids in A Secret In The Shape Of A Song – A Tribute To The Music Of David McComb.
